Roy has over 35 years of experience in the semiconductor, software and systems industry. He was the founder of Optichron in 2003, a fabless semiconductor start up focusing on implementing nonlinear modeling and equalization techniques applied to the communications and cellular industry. Optichron was acquired in 2011 by NetLogic and subsequently by Broadcom where Roy was Senior Director of Engineering heading the Digital Front End Products Group. Prior to Optichron Roy was VP of Engineering at Centillium as well as Avio Digital, and served as staff technologist at several startups such as Enable Semiconductor and ControlNet. Roy also spent over fifteen years at National Semiconductor where he was part of the Telecom Products team.
He earned a B.Sc. Electrical Engineering from Loughborough University in England, a Masters of Engineering from Cornell University, and an MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.
Ravi has over 22 years of experience bringing new products to market. Prior to his current role, he most recently was co-founder and VP of Microelectronics at Optichron where he led
a team defining and developing very large and successful semiconductors. After a successful
acquisition by NetLogic Microsystems, Optichron became the DFE product line at Broadcom
after it acquired NetLogic and Ravi served in Senior Director and Director roles leading a
geographically diverse team. Prior to that, Ravi has held various management roles at Centillium Communications, Avio Digital, National Semiconductor and LSI Logic.
Ravi has an MBA (Honors) degree from UC Berkeley, an MS from Oregon State University with
an EE (Major) and CS (Minor) and a BSEE degree from PSG College of Technology, India.
Tim has over 20 years of experience bring new technologies to market. Most recently he was co- founder and VP of Systems Engineering at Optichron where he led the product development effort utilizing ground breaking signal processing science to improve the performance and lower the cost of cellular basestation equipment. After a successful acquisition by NetLogic Microsystems, Optichron became the DFE product line at Broadcom after it acquired NetLogic. Previously Tim was one of the co-founders at Avio Digital, one of the first spin offs from Paul Allen’s technology incubator Interval Research Corp. Avio Digital developed home networking products based on technology developed at Interval Research and was later acquired by Centillium Communications.
Tim earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science from Stanford as well as an MBA from Berkeley.
Julie has over 20 years of experience in human resources and business administration with
early stage and technology companies. Julie was the first employee and Director of
Human Resources and Administration at Optichron. At Optichron Julie helped build the company's organization, optimized staff and consultant resources, co-managed MarCom/PR efforts and was instrumental in providing due diligence support that led to the acquisition of Optichron by NetLogic Microsystems. Prior to Optichron, Julie was the Business
Operations Manager of Avio Digital, a home networking technology spin-off of
Interval Research, where she supported corporate and engineering needs before Avio was
acquired by Centillium Communications. Prior to Avio, Julie had an administrative role at
Carnelian, another Interval-funded company that developed early internet publishing software.
Julie has a B.A. in both English and History from UC Santa Barbara.
Jeff is an Advisor and Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at BVA following a successful 25-year Product and General Management career at some of the Valley’s best and innovative companies, including Silicon Graphics, and NVIDIA Corp. and as well as a founder, co-founder and executive at a number of start-ups.
Jeff has been most recently focused on advising, investing and running early-stage start ups in a variety of markets ranging from Cloud, Virtualization, Big Data, Predictive Analytics to Training and Simulation. His operating experience includes managing Billion dollar lines of business spanning many vertical industries and technologies.
He holds a BS Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Pepperdine.
Jerry Brown founded BVA in 1991 after a successful career at IBM and Texas Instruments. At TI, he was an officer and VP of the company’s Data Systems Group responsible for the systems, software and Systems Integration businesses. Prior to TI, he was with IBM where he held VP/GM positions in engineering, sales and marketing.
Jerry has placed more than 200 CEO’s/VPs and Officers. He has helped form six funds with over $1 billion under management. He also consults on new Venture fund formation and fund restructuring. He has placed 20 General Partners and in 2015 placed Managing Directors at SRI Ventures and The SETI Institure. Brown Ventures LLC which has invested in and built the teams of over 50 venture backed companies yielding over 20 liquidity events.
Jerry holds a BS in Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and has completed coursework for an MS/CS at NYU.
Jeff serves as outside general counsel for several emerging growth companies. He has over 28 years of experience serving as a counselor for venture-capital backed companies from the pre-business plan stage through sale or IPO and beyond, including Optichron, which he represented from incorporation through its sale to NetLogic Microsystems.
He has also represented numerous investors and underwriters in private financings and public offerings, respectively, as well as individual executives, and has served as an expert witness regarding corporate and securities matters. Jeff spent the first 14 years of his career at two elite Silicon Valley firms before striking out on his own.
He received an A.B. from Stanford and his J.D. from UCLA. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the UCLA Venture Capital Fund, and was one of its founding members. Jeff has also won cash and prizes on numerous game shows.
